The U.S. Mint does not sell its bullion coins directly to the public. Instead, they distribute their coins to only a handful of authorized purchasers who then sell the coins to the public. As one of these authorized purchasers, APMEX is able to get coins direct from the U.S. Mint and pass them along to you.
Coin Highlights:
- Contains 1/10 oz actual Gold weight.
- Multiples of 50 are packaged in mint tubes. All other coins will be in protective packaging.
- Eligible for Precious Metals IRAs.
- Obverse: Adapted from Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ famed 1907 Gold Double Eagle design, which features Lady Liberty walking confidently against the sun’s rays.
- Reverse: Designed by Miley Busiek showing a male bald eagle in flight carrying an olive branch to his nest, where a female awaits with her young.
- Minted at West Point, N.Y.

I chose this as my very first gold coin purchase. I really love the design on both sides, and the fact that it's produced by the United States Mint. It's considered bullion but my example is flawless. The smaller denomination costs a higher premium but it also opens up a much wider audience if it had to be sold. I also purchased the direct fit capsule to put it in so it doesn't get scratched up. I feel as though it's definitely a good purchase and hope to get more of them in the future.
- Pros
- Attractive Design
- Easy to Sell
- Mint Condition
- Recognized Brand
- Cons
- Common (higher mintage)
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Man these things are tiny...little smaller than a dime basically. And I don't know what the deal is with the gold the US uses for coins but it just doesn't look that great. The PAMP gold for example seems to be much brighter/yellower. The gold used for Eagles has an almost bronzish look to it. Anyway, nice little coins but if I want to get a small amount of gold in the future I'll probably just get a 5-gram PAMP bar or Perth bar or something.
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
