Somalian Gold Elephant Coins

The Somalian Elephant gold coin, also known as the Somalian African Wildlife Gold coin or Somali Elephant, is one of the most fascinating coins in the African Wildlife Coin Series commemorating the characteristic fauna of Africa. Minted by the Das Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt Mint in Munich, Germany. The German manufactured gold coins attract attention from coin collectors all over the world.

The first Somalian Gold Elephant coins were issued in 1999 and featured an African elephant on the reverse side. Since then, a new design featuring a different image of an elephant has been released each year, making these coins popular among collectors of gold bullion and numismatists alike.

One of the most interesting aspects of the coin is the location of the coin's production: the Das Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt Mint, or the Bavarian State Mint. Over 800 years old, the Bavarian State Mint has been producing coins since 1158, and it is the oldest company in Munich. One of the five German state mints, the Bavarian State Mint produces collector coins, medals and seals.

Besides its place of manufacture, another of the gold coin's desirable attributes is its striking design. Celebrating the beauty of the animal kingdom, the Elephant coin portrays one of the largest mammals found on the African plains, the elephant. Retaining the same design since the gold coin's release, the obverse of the coin depicts two leopards supporting a shield and five-pointed star. Beneath the leopards appears a ribbon draped over two crossed lances and two crossed palm fronds. However, unlike the obverse, the reverse of this coin changes annually but always features an illustration of a majestic elephant in its natural habitat.

The coins are made of .9999 fine gold and come in various denominations, ranging from 1/50 oz to 1 oz. They are legal tender in Somalia with face values of 1,000, 2,000, and 10,000 Somali Shillings depending on the weight of the coin.

Somalian Gold Elephant coins are among the most beautiful and popular coins in the African wildlife series. They are also highly sought after by investors and collectors due to their high purity and limited mintage.
